Concierge Therapy FAQs
San Jose Counseling and Psychotherapy
The following are some frequently asked questions about concierge therapy. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Q. What is concierge therapy?
A. Concierge therapy is a client-centered practice that offers highly personalized primary care with increased access. Under most circumstances I respond to you within 2 to 4 hours.
Q. How do I know if concierge therapy right for me?
A. With concierge therapy, you have the chance to develop a deep, personal relationship with your therapist who is dedicated to your whole health. The easy access to a therapist and innovative approach offer a uniquely customized experience.
Q. What ages of patients do concierge therapists accept?
A. Most concierge therapists accept adult patients age 18 or older. There are some exceptions and some therapists work with children, couples and families. I only work with individual adults. I do not do couple or family therapy.
Q. Do you do home visits?
A. Not at this time. This is primarily due to safety reasons. Some concierge therapists provide home visits as needed and based on location. If this is important to you make sure to bring it up when you are interviewing concierge therapists.
Q. How long are appointments?
A. The answer is simple: “As long as you need.” Unless otherwise requested, sessions are 45 minutes. As a concierge therapy practice, I only take a limited number of clients. But because I do have more than one client, I request that if you need a session longer than 45 minutes please let me know in advance. Because each concierge therapy practice will have unique guidelines, it’s important to ask what the policies are at any office you’re considering.
Q. Will insurance cover my concierge therapy care?
A. Like the majority of therapists, I do not directly take insurance. However, you may be able to get reimbursement from your insurance carrier. Please call them to check your benefit coverage if that’s important to you.
Q. Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HCRA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for concierge therapy?
A. Please consult your specific FSA, HCRA or HSA plan details to see if you can use it for concierge therapy.
Q. How can I sign up?
A. If you’re interest on learning more, please take the following steps: Call to schedule a consultation. At this meet-and-greet appointment, I’ll answer your questions. After your meet-and-greet appointment, you’ll receive documents either via email or in person if you’re coming to the office.
Q. What can I expect from my consultation?
A. We’ll meet and you will learn more about their philosophy of care and the concierge program, and you can ask any questions you may have. Please note that I don’t discuss therapeutic issues such as treatment strategies during this meet-and-greet appointment. If you’re interested, you ask to become a concierge client at this appointment.
Q. If we engage in a consultation, is there a guarantee of continued sessions?
A. Each person is unique. While I maintain a small caseload to ensure focused attention, I also seek synergies that resonate with my therapeutic style. Not everyone will be invited for ongoing sessions. If our alignment isn’t perfect, I can recommend other therapists. On occasion, should my caseload be at capacity, a waiting list system may be employed.
